How to eat healthy

I will be honest; it’s not easy. Life puts us to the test, and we often fail (I did and still do). Every day I kept trying. I always ate pretty healthily, but in recent years I knew I had to do better, for I feel better on a raw plant-based diet. I learned this through a lot of trial and error.

Okay, so let’s get to the point. How do we make the switch? The correct answer is baby steps.

The first week removed one or two unhealthy habits, and every week from there, keep going. You can add one cheat meal monthly, but that never worked for me. If I had a cheat meal, it messed me up for days, and I just craved what I wasn’t supposed to have.

Meal prep! I’m sure you hear it all the time, but it works! Prep meals 2-3 days in advance. This can include juices. Just make sure they’re in an air-tight bottle.

SMOOTHIES! Smoothies are a great meal replacement and give you lots of energy on top of the nutrients you need for the day. I will include some smoothie recipes at the end of this blog. The kids even love smoothies, so they always work out in my house

Whatever it is you’re craving, try and make it healthier. If you know you crave chocolate (like I do), make yourself something before dinner so that when you start wanting something you can’t have, you have a healthier option. So for me, I have been doing fruit salads with coconut flakes, drizzled date syrup, and ginger syrup, and then I’ll add some seed for a nice crunch. We have so many options these days to take the things we love and make them healthier, so there’s no excuse. Again, keep trying every day, and eventually, you’ll understand how to make your meals healthier.

Sleep! Sleep is probably the most challenging part. If you don’t sleep enough, you will not want to make healthier choices (especially if you have little ones). I don’t sleep much between the two kids waking me up in the middle of the night and trying to get work done. I probably get 6 hours if I’m lucky. Those days I don’t get much; if I don’t meal prep, my day is completely ruined. Try your best to get rest, and this will help you start your days off right.

HYDRATE! The more you hydrate, the healthier choices you’ll make. Sometimes we eat junk when our bodies are just dehydrated. I try and set a goal of 60oz a day. I like to set up lemon or ginger water the night before so that I know to drink it all. At night cucumber water is AMAZING. I’m not a big tea person.

I hope this helped even a little. If you have any questions, please reach out. I am always here to help, and I love talking about food.

Some smoothie recipes me and my kids love.
